National Friends of Libraries Week

Friends of Libraries groups have their own designated week of celebration! Held Oct. 16-22, this year marks the 17th annual celebration.

National Friends of Libraries Week (Oct. 16-22)

Here at CCPL, we love our Friends, a nonprofit that advocates for our services, collection, patrons and staff. The Friends help CCPL by volunteering for a number of tasks, from hosting library events to assisting staff with special projects.

The celebration helps raise awareness for the important work Friends of the Library groups do at systems across the country.

If you’ve visited any of our branches, you’ve likely noticed their presence in more ways than one. Each branch includes a small Friends area where they sell items. They also host book sales throughout the year at the Newport Branch, which feature titles from an array of genres at incredible prices. Money raised through the sale helps partially fund several library programs and items, including the library’s Birthday Club, Spotlight Series, Signature Series, parades, murals and the Book Bus. Upcoming book sale dates include:

  • 9 am-noon Thursday, Oct. 27
  • 9 am-5 pm Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 10-12
  • 9 am-5 pm Thursday-Saturday, Jan. 12-14
  • 9 am-noon Thursday, Jan. 26

Earlier this spring, CCPL’s Friends awarded the $1,500 Jean Nagel Lillie scholarship, which helps fund library personnel working toward furthering their education, to three staff members: Julia Manning, Chay Rust and Molly Walker.
