We Suggest: Books That Inspire Creativity

Since this year’s Summer Reading is all about creativity, we thought it was the perfect time to ask staff about books that inspire their own creativity!
Read to find out how you can find inspiration with some of the books we have at the Campbell County Public Library!
Books That Inspire Creativity
Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
I have no idea how many times I read Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor as a teenager/aspiring art major, but I do know that I spent quite a bit of time soaking in the descriptions of Karou’s sketchbooks. I, too, wanted a shelf full of sketchbooks nearly bursting at the seams (sometimes literally: Karou’s are described as being held together with rubber bands and immediately springing open once the bands were removed) with scribbles, paint and who knows what else that brought otherworldly monsters to life on their pages.

1000 Japanese Knitting & Crochet Stitches by Gayle Roehm.
This book has a ton of patterns and charts you can adapt to almost any project. It has super clear pictures, the charts are easy to read and for beginners, it has a simple explanation of techniques in the front. It is a great starting place to get creative with yarn.

Origami Yoda Series by Tom Angleberger,
Those books were so much fun, and they inspired me to try out origami for the first time! You don’t even need to be a Star Wars fan to enjoy them. They’re super lighthearted and silly, and I still think back fondly on the whole series even 15 years later.

A Crochet World of Creepy Creatures and Cryptids by Rikki Gustafson
The patterns in this book are monstrously adorable. This book’s unique take on crochet stuffed animals appeals to the folklore lover in me. One of my first crochet projects was a goblin from this book, and I can’t stand how cute he is!

Player’s Handbook by James Wyatt
Dungeons & Dragons is a fantastic way to flex your creative muscles. The Player’s Handbook gives you everything you need to know to get started. From there, you can create a daring elven sorcerer or craft a high-stakes fantasy adventure. The only limit is your imagination!
