A Beginner’s Guide to Using the Library

New to the library? No problem! While the library has much to offer, here’s a handy guide if you’re just starting out.

1. Sign Up for a Library Card

All you need is a valid photo ID & proof of address. After you’re set with your new library card, check out items from our physical & digital collection—we have over 200,000 books, e-books, audiobooks, CDs, video games, DVDs & more. Bonus? We have multiple library card designs to choose from! You can also sign up for a Digital Patron Card. Learn more at cc-pl.org/library-card

2. Search Our Catalog

Visit catalog.cc-pl.org to search for items & place holds to your heart’s content at any of our four branches: Cold Spring, Fort Thomas, Newport & Alexandria. We’ll notify you when they’re ready for pick up!

You can search our catalog in-branch or on your smart device. If you need help using the catalog, staff are happy to help!

3. While You’re at it, Download Libby

Access the library from your smart device! Download Libby & borrow e-books, audiobooks & digital magazines. CCPL also has its own app where users can search our catalog, view upcoming programs and place/manage holds.

4. Use a Study Room

Need a quiet place to meet, work on a project or get homework done? Visit cc-pl.org/meeting-study-rooms to book a space for free! Along with study rooms, larger meeting rooms are also offered.

5. Print, Scan & Fax Away

Send a printing request from home via email to pick up at any of our branches. When you arrive, head to the information services desk, let them know & then pay.

Have a printing request? Send it to your preferred branch for pick up with the subject line “Print Job.”

Printed or photocopied 8.5×11 black & white pages are $0.20 and color pages are $0.40. Printed or photocopied 11×17 black & white pages are $0.30 and color pages are $0.60.

Scanning and faxing services are free of charge. Scan to an email address, USB flash drive or fax machine.

6. Attend a Program

The library has programs for all ages and interests. Visit cc-pl.org/events or pick up a Connections newsletter to see what’s happening at every branch! We offer everything from craft nights to author talks to clubs and more.

7. Computers & Wi-Fi

Every branch provides free access to computers/laptops with internet. All you need is a library card & PIN. You can also get a guest pass with a valid photo ID! Plus, connect to our free Wi-Fi with your personal devices!
