Meet Our New Board Member: Terra Ryder

Meet Terra Ryder, the newest addition to the library’s Board of Trustees.

Public Relations Coordinator Mackenzie Manley caught up with Ryder via email to discuss everything from her hopes for CCPL to her favorite books.

An internal audit and financial advisory consultant at Protiviti, Ryder said that public libraries have played a big role throughout her life—starting at childhood to being a college student and now as a working professional.

She went on to highlight why she applied to be a trustee: “I wanted to do my part to make the library a place others go to for connection, resources and community.”

A graduate of the University of South Carolina (USC), Ryder moved to Fort Thomas in 2022. Along with her work at Protiviti, Ryder has worked as a contract specialist for the Air Force Civilian Service and held multiple positions at USC.

Since moving to the area, Ryder has participated in several library activities; highlights include becoming a regular member of Fort Thomas’s Must Read Romance book club, attending crafting programs and even a tea tasting event.

Must Read Romance, which meets at 7 pm the first Thursday of every month, has helped Ryder create friendships with women she says she otherwise would not have met. It has also allowed her to add more books to her “To Be Read” list than ever before.

“I think libraries are foundational to building a community. It plays a role in providing space for learning, growth and connections that are hard to find once you leave school and even while you are in school,” Ryder said. “The resources libraries provide are not found in many other places. They bring people together and expose us all to new things that will only push us to be better and do better together.”

Ryder’s favorite books? While she loves the romance genre, she said she always suggests The Glass Castle by Jeannette WallsTrail of the Lost by Andrea Lankford and The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman.

Aside from books, her favorite library resources are study rooms and robust programming.

“I’m hoping that coming with a background in internal audit consulting, and all the work I did within my university, means that I can help to ask the questions needed to make sure we are meeting the needs of the community,” Ryder said.

Ryder joins Tracy A. Smith, president; Jessica Schweitzer, vice president; Jonathan S. Cullick, treasurer; and Kelly Raleigh on the Board of Trustees.
