Enjoy National Hobby Month with the Library

January is National Hobby Month and the perfect time to indulge in your favorite interests and activities.

Maybe one of your New Year’s Resolutions is to start a new hobby or perhaps you just want to spend more time enjoying one of your favorite activities. The library is here to help make sure your National Hobby Month is memorable by helping you participate in some of your go-to pastimes.

Art and Crafts

If you’re an artist or crafter, the library offers plenty of programs for you to flex your creativity. You can register to attend free DIY crafting programs at each of our library branches. Projects will typically change weekly, but one thing remains the same: we provide the supplies, you just have to bring your creativity.

Don’t forget to check our catalog for art or crafting books and magazines. There are sure to be several titles to spark inspiration for your next project.

Reading

If you’re an avid reader, you have definitely come to the right place. Whether you prefer books, audiobooks or ebooks, we can hook you up with some new titles to enjoy.

Don’t forget to join a book club. Each of our branches hosts monthly book clubs that are designed for an array of ages and interests.

Gaming

Are you a gamer? You can browse our selection of video games and check out titles to take home! Gamers of all kinds, from board to console, can also enjoy a variety of gaming programs for all ages and interests.

Cooking and Baking

Our collection is home to a myriad of cookbooks for every occasion, taste, diet and skill level. Find new dishes to try or maybe just look for some cooking and baking tips to start using in your daily life. There’s only one stipulation — you must share your treats with the library staff if you’re baking desserts!*

*This is not actually a library rule.

Genealogy and Local History

Those interested in genealogy and local history will find lots of helpful resources at the library. You can access Ancestry Library Edition for free at any of the public computers located at our library branches. All you need is your library card to reserve a computer.

Travel

Does your favorite hobby include maps and suitcases? Grab some travel guides from our collection. You can also prepare for a trip abroad by using Mango Languages to brush up your skills.

Music

Take some time and browse our CD collection or read up on your favorite musicians from the books in our collections. You can also find books to help build your musical skills.

There are countless hobbies and activities for you to participate in this month and throughout the whole year. Check out our catalog for books on your favorite hobbies, sign up for a program or ask a staff member about other services and resources for your hobbies.
