Manga to Anime Club: ‘Fruits Basket’ by Natsuki Takaya

Join us at the Alexandria Branch for Manga to Anime Club! This is a book club where we will read the first volume of a manga series each month and have a discussion about both the manga and the anime. Anyone who has read the manga or watched the anime is welcome! Light snacks will be provided.

For February, we’re discussing Fruits Basket by Natsuki Takaya. Tohru Honda, an orphan girl, meets and befriends the Sohma family. She learns that 13 members of the Sohma family are possessed by the animals of the Chinese zodiac and are cursed to turn into their animal forms when they are weak, stressed, or when they are embraced by anyone of the opposite gender who is not possessed by a spirit of the zodiac. The manga explores themes of love, family, and personal growth in a heartwarming tale.
