What to Watch After Game of Thrones
After eight record-breaking seasons, Game of Thrones has come to an end. We have a few suggestions on how to fill the Westeros-sized void in your TV viewing schedule.
Based on Diana Gabaldon’s books, Outlander follows Claire Randall, a World War II nurse that is transported back in time to 1743 Scotland while on a honeymoon with her husband. Accused of being a spy, she is catapulted into danger and finds herself torn between two men in vastly different times.
Vikings is the History Channel’s first original, scripted series. The TV show transports us to the brutal and mysterious world of Ragnar Lothbrok, a Viking warrior and farmer who became a legend through his exploits in and around England.
The 100 is a post-apocalyptic science fiction drama that is loosely based on a novel series by Kass Morgan. The series follows a group of survivors, mainly a group of criminal adolescents, as they return to Earth after a devastating nuclear apocalypse.
The Shannara Chronicles
The Shannara Chronicles TV series is an adaptation of The Sword of Shannara trilogy by Terry Brooks. After the destruction of civilization, three young heroes become Earth’s last hope for salvation when a massive force of demons threatens the planet.
Gunpowder, a three-part mini-series, stars Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) as Robert Catesby. The series follows British activist Guy Fawkes and a group of provincial English Catholics as they plan to blow up the House of Lords and kill King James I in the early 17th century.
Black Sails, a prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island, follows the adventures of infamous pirate Captain Flint. The series centers on Flint and his notorious crew as they fight for survival and fortune in the early 18th-century Caribbean.
After being recruited to a secretive academy, a group of students discover that the mythic fantasy world they once read about as children is very real-and more dangerous than they ever imagined. The show is based on Lev Grossman’s best-selling book series.
Based on a series of novels by James S.A. Corey, The Expanse is set in a future where humanity has colonized the solar system. A detective, the first officer of an interplanetary ice freighter and a United Nations politician slowly discover a vast conspiracy that threatens the Earth’s rebellious colony on the asteroid belt.
The Last Kingdom
The Last Kingdom is set in late 9th-century England when Viking invasions were commonplace. As Alfred the Great defends his kingdom from Norse invaders, Uhtred – born a Saxon but raised by Vikings – seeks to claim his ancestral birthright. The series is based on Bernard Cornwell’s The Saxon Tales series.
