Tween Book Club – ‘You Don’t Know Everything, Jilly P!’ by Alex Gino

Sometimes reading is more fun when you have others to talk to. Registering for this program puts you on a list to pick up a free copy of this month’s club pick, You Don’t Know Everything, Jilly P! by Alex Gino, from the library.

1. Register for this program to get your copy of the book. If you can’t pick it up at Newport, tell us your location choice using the special needs section of the registration form.
2. Starting July 9th, pick up your book from the library.
3. Read and enjoy the book at your own pace.
4. Come chat about this month’s book and other books you love in the Zoom book club on August 13th at 4:00 pm.

This book club is for ages 8-14.

Jilly thinks she’s figured out how life works. But when her sister Emma is born Deaf, she realizes how much she still has to learn. A big fantasy reader, Jilly connects with another fan, Derek, who is a Deaf Black ASL user. She goes to Derek for advice but doesn’t always know the best way to ask for it and makes some mistakes along the way. Jilly has to step back to learn to be an ally, a sister, and a friend, understanding that life works in different ways for different people, and that being open to change can make you change in the best possible ways.

Due to registration limits and social distancing requirements, we encourage adults to remain in the library but to allow their tween to attend the program alone -only if child and adult are comfortable. If an adult needs to accompany a teen, the adult must sit with the teen so as to not contribute to room capacity.

If Campbell County is RED on the Kentucky Department for Public Health’s COVID-19 Dashboard, everyone, age 6 or older, who attends library programs are required to wear masks.
