9:30 am - 10:30 am

Danielle visited the 7th and 8th grade class at St. Philip’s on Thursday, March 21st @ 9:30 AM. I brought out a variety of space-themed activities to get the students excited for the eclipse! Each student received a pair of solar eclipse glasses to take home and share with their family. Our last activity of the day was Play-Doh Planets, where we made scale models of the Earth, Mars, and the Moon out of Play-Doh and then measured the diameter of each to calculate the scale distance apart. We found out that if I put our Earth right in the middle of the crosswalk outside the school, Mars would be 224 meters away. I printed out a picture from Google Earth to show them just how far, and one student was amazed to see that it was all the way past his house! 🙂
