Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Kentucky Libraries Unbound?

The eBook and eAudiobook service is accessed through the websiteor through the Libby app available in the iOS and Android app stores.

Do I have to create a special account?

No. Kentucky Libraries Unbound is designed to use the Campbell County library card you already have.

How do I find items to check out?

It is important to sign into the service with your library card before browsing. There are many titles available exclusively to Campbell County patrons that will not be visible otherwise. Once you’re signed in at http://kyunbound.lib.overdrive.com, or through the Libby app, you will notice that there is a search link, as well as a page of featured items.

Clicking on the search link will allow you to enter keywords related to the title or topic you are interested in. You can also click on any of the featured items directly, or use the subjects and collections menu items to browse specific topics and formats. Availability for each item is displayed above the cover image. Clicking on a cover image will display more detailed information about that item.

How do I check out items?

After choosing a title, the detailed information screen will show you all the available formats, as well as item availability and other information. If the title is available, clicking on “Borrow” will check the item out and make it appear on you “Loans” page, where it can be viewed and downloaded.

How do I download my items?

Downloads work differently depending on your device. Compatible Android and iOS devices have a free app called Libby for downloading and managing materials. Most Kindle titles can be borrowed by completing the checkout process, then going to your Amazon Kindle account to download your material via Wi-Fi. Some older Kindles and eBook readers may require that the materials be downloaded to a desktop or laptop PC, then transferred via a USB cable to the device.

More information about getting started and downloading materials can be found on the OverDrive help website.

Where can I go for more information?

You can always ask a staff member at the Information Services Desk. If you need additional help, set up a free 1-on-1 tech training session.

There are some very good resources available on the Kentucky Libraries Unbound website help section. You can also contact Kentucky Libraries Unbound digital support at ebooks@cc-pl.org.

What devices work with the Kentucky Libraries Unbound service?

Digital items are compatible with a wide range of portable devices, such as eReaders, tablets and smartphones.

How many titles can I check out simultaneously?

You can have up to 12 items checked out at one time.

How long do digital titles check-out?

Maximum checkout periods are 7 days for most videos and 21 days for eAudiobooks and eBooks. You may choose a shorter checkout period if you desire.

Can I renew digital items?

Yes, if there are no holds on the title. You will begin seeing a renewal option in the “Loans” area of your account approximately two days prior to the due date.

Can I place a title on hold?

Yes. You can place up to ten titles on hold at a given time.

How will I be notified when a hold is available?

Once the title becomes available for checkout, you will receive an email indicating the title is available. If you have the automatic hold checkout feature enabled, the item will automatically be checked out to you when it becomes available. You must check out your item within 48 hours of the email being sent or the item will return to the library’s collection.

Can I download digital titles to public computers at the library?

No. Licensing issues and computer security will not allow downloads to library computers. When connected to our Wi-Fi, Kindle users may be able to check out their books on public library computers, then log into their Amazon accounts to download their books via their Kindle’s Wi-Fi. Libby users may also use the library’s Wi-Fi to access the service.

How do I return a borrowed item?

You do not need to return a borrowed item. Once the lending period has elapsed, the title is automatically returned to the library.

Can I return a borrowed item early?

Most eBooks and eAudiobooks may be returned early. For some formats, you must wait until the checkout period expires. You can also choose a shorter checkout period during the checkout process if desired. Kindle users may return items early or delete items using the “Manage Your Content and Device” option in their Amazon.com account. Libby users will see a “Manage Loan” menu item where the item may be returned early, if the option is available.
