Where to Find Book Recommendations

The library can help you find the perfect book, whether you’re trying to win prizes for Summer Reading or need something new to take on vacation.

We have many resources for narrowing down which book will be your next great read. If you’re still on the fence, there are several websites devoted to book reviews and recommendations.

CCPL Book Lists

Did you know that the library’s website has a page dedicated to book recommendations? You can find book lists in a variety of categories for different reading preferences and levels. Do you need a creepy book to set the mood at a campfire? No problem! We have a list of Edgar Allen Poe Award winners. Is one of your kids looking for a new book to read so they can fill out their Summer Reading Log? Look no further than “Cam’s Favorite Books.” These lists and many more can be found on our website’s Book Recommendations page.

Novelist

If you’re on the hunt for a fiction book, Novelist is a perfect place to start. With Novelist, you can search for book recommendations based on your personal reading preferences. It also features recommendations for a variety of genres and age groups. You can access Novelist outside of the library by using your barcode number.

Kentucky Library’s Unbound

The library’s digital collection can be accessed through Kentucky Libraries Unbound, which also curates monthly selections of ebooks and audiobooks that fit specific genres or categories. You can find these curated collections by visiting the Kentucky Libraries Unbound homepage. Kentucky Libraries Unbound can be accessed with your barcode number as well as the Libby or Overdrive Apps.

Goodreads

Bibliophiles from near and far often turn to Goodreads for book recommendations. Goodreads combines reading with social media elements, allowing users to see book lists created by other members or to make their own. The site also hosts an annual “Best Of” award list based entirely on fan votes. The yearly finalists and winners are a great starting point for finding out what stories resonate with fellow readers. All that is needed to create a free account is your email address.

Fantastic Fiction

Fantastic Fiction provides readers with lists of new authors and new books to be on the lookout for when visiting the library. You can track which books are most popular each month according to the website’s members. An email address is needed to sign up for a free Fantastic Fiction account.

Book Riot

Another popular website for book recommendations is Book Riot. The writing team behind Book Riot creates diverse and interesting book lists alongside an impressive array of recommendations and reviews. This site has various reading challenges that you can participate in throughout the year. These challenges help readers expand their reading experiences and read outside their comfort zones.

Staff Recommendations

Next time you’re in one of our library branches, feel free to ask a staff member for a recommendation! Also, look around at the book displays in your local library branches. You might just find your next favorite book sitting on a shelf waiting to be checked out.
