The library’s long-standing giving season campaign is getting a refresh! Introducing: Cam Cares.
Previously known as Drop Your Drawers, Cam Cares will operate under the same premise: collecting socks, underwear, bras and t-shirts for Family Resource Centers in local public schools this November and December. Cam Cares launches Nov. 1 and will run through Dec. 31.
Like in previous years, the library aims to raise 7,000 pairs of new undergarments in their original packaging in any size. The donations help meet a crucial, but often overlooked, need. All four branches will accept donations! Items will be distributed to public elementary, middle and high schools in Campbell County.
How and why does the campaign help? Read below for quick points!
The campaign first launched in 2015 at CCPL. Our community has donated nearly 75,000 items throughout the campaign’s run. In the years since, it was adopted by library systems across the country. Cam Cares launches Nov. 1 and will run through Dec. 31.
Cam Cares, formerly known as Drop Your Drawers, is a donation drive with the goal of easing the burden on schools in their efforts to provide essential resources to students so their education can remain their top priority.
Since 2015, all Campbell County Public Library branches have collected unopened undergarment donations from Nov. 1 to Dec. 31, where we then deliver them to the Family Resource Centers at local public schools throughout Campbell County.
Whether it be an accident or another circumstance that leads to students requiring undergarments, Family Resource Centers at local elementary, middle and high schools in the county give out more than 100 pairs of undergarments per month. These items include t-shirts, bras, socks, underwear and pants.
11 years ago, CCPL identified this as a crucial resource for schools, and we decided to take steps to break the barriers that block schools from getting what they need. Since its beginning, CCPL has collected a total of 80,410 undergarments for local schools! Due to the success of this donation campaign, it is no wonder that many library systems across the country have followed in our footsteps to support their local schools, as well.
We hope to make the 10th year the best year of this campaign with a donation goal of at least 7,000 items donated! Simply drop by your local branch to drop off any type of undergarment item, and we will take care of the rest. Every single donation counts because each donation directly benefits at least one student in our community.
