Young readers take home a win

Summer Reading was a home run for 17 young Campbell County Public Library readers on Wednesday, Aug. 3, at the Florence Freedom game.

Adam Welke with his grandmother, Cindy Harvey.

They earned a free ticket to the game for reading achievements over the summer. All of the public libraries in the area teamed with the Freedom for Reading Awareness Night at UC Health Stadium in Florence.

All kids were invited to walk around the field between games of the Freedom’s doubleheader and one young reader from each library was chosen in a raffle to throw out the first pitch for the second game. Representing Campbell County Public Library was portsider Adam Welke of Newport, who fired a strike and kept the ball as a souvenir.

Thank you to the Florence Freedom and all the good sports who kept up their reading over the summer.
