This month's book:
Pop Princess by Rachel Cohn
This is Not a Dress Rehearsal! This is the real thing, you are about to go on stage and sing in front of thousands of potential fans. Don't mess this up! Two years ago, sisters Wonder and Lucky Blake were members of Boston 's B-Kidz, a youth variety show. Lucky was formalizing a pop trio with cast mates Trina and Kayla when she was killed by a drunk driver. Her sudden death paralyzed the Blakes, eventually forcing the family's relocation to their ramshackle beach cottage. Wonder now toils at a Dairy Queen while praying for escape. Enter former manager Tig. Wonder narrates this hilarious yet cautionary story, usually nailing irreverent teen-speak, although actual celebrities, magazines, and television shows such as Oprah are interspersed in a curious and jarring mix with obviously fictional counterparts. |
