Signature Series: Falcon Takes Flight presents “Rafting Rise”
Falcon Takes Flight, a program of Falcon Theatre, returns to the Signature stage to present Joe Survant’s “Rafting Rise.” The dramatic reading will bring to life a world of log rafting and floodplain dwellers in the Central Kentucky basins of the Rough, Green and Ohio Rivers circa 1916-1917.
Raison D’Etre will perform music to help connect the audience to the small events of history, recreated by Survant through the lives of his carefully imagined characters. The performance will be directed by Falcon’s Clint Ibele.
Joe Survant is the recipient of the State Street Press Poetry Prize, The Arkansas Poetry Award and grants from the NEH, the Asia Foundation and the KAC. He is the author of “We Will All Be Changed,” “Anne & Alpheus 1842-1882,” “Rafting Rise,” “The Presence of Snow in the Tropics” and, most recently “The Land We Dreamed,” the last book of his Kentucky trilogy.
Survant grew up downstream from Newport, in Owensboro, Kentucky. Retired from teaching at Western Kentucky University, he is a past Poet Laureate of Kentucky. His poems have been published in Malaysia, Singapore, China and the U.K., and collected in over a dozen anthologies.
Survant will be present for a book sale and signing following the presentation. Joseph-Beth Booksellers will have copies of “Rafting Rise” and other works by the author available for purchase.
